Governor News and Updates

Governor News Spring 25

Welcome to the Spring edition of our Governor News update. Please see below to find out what     we have been busy doing this term.

Curriculum – EYFS Review Visit

This term our focus visit was in Early Years. We very much enjoyed visiting the Nursery and Reception Classes and seeing the children engage in a wealth of learning opportunities across the curriculum in the indoor and outdoor environments.  The Governors noted how the classroom displays celebrate and support learning and add to the calm environments. Children were confident in the routines of the classroom and it was lovely to see children of all needs and stages of learning enthusiastic and participating well.  As well as well-structured, engaging and clear phonics lessons specific to the children’s learning stage, we were also able to see how the team were giving the children the opportunity to apply their phonics knowledge in other areas of learning, from reading in the phonics book corner to the directed writing tasks where children were creating sentences applying what they had learnt in Read Write Ink sessions. We were impressed with the children’s ability to talk confidently, enthusiastically and knowledgeably about what they are learning about.

SEND – Coffee Morning for Parents

It was lovely to once again meet with parents to listen, discuss and share experiences and thoughts about the challenges children with SEND and their parents can face. It was also wonderful to hear how supportive you find our school in helping in this journey. We also enjoyed hearing of the ideas you have to feedback to the Local Authority as it continues to develop its local offer.

We look forward to our next meeting in the summer term when there will be the opportunity to attend some workshops provided by other professionals as part of the meeting.

School Council – Pupil Voice

Mrs Donnison visited the school council who involved in a joint meeting with the local Snaith and Cowick town council and was blown away by the mature ideas that the children had for improving their local area. She reported back to the governors that she was especially impressed with how inclusive they were, considering and suggesting improvements that could support people in the community from a range of ages, generations and needs. The Town Council complimented the children on their polite and professional manners.

It’s A Rap

We have very much enjoyed learning about the World Book Week RAP’s that children have been involved in this term. It is clear that the children have been inspired with rhyme and poetry, even turning the school logo and vision statement into a RAP. We can’t wait to see the final video version that we know they are working on as we write this report.

Other Governor Updates and visits this term

Along with governor training for governor leadership, the schools responsibility for collective worship and safeguarding,  Governors received an update from the HT on the purpose and types of assessment used by the school and how school is developing its systems of recording and tracking progress with the new HERO system.  This was helpful in enabling the governors to understand the developments being made.
