Understanding the World

Shadow drawing

Choose your favourite zoo animal or any animal that you have at home. Go outside and find the sun. Using a piece of paper try and draw the shadow that your chosen animal/objects makes.

Talk to your adult about:

  • What is causing the shadow?
  • What do you need to make a shadow?
  • Does everything cast a shadow?
  • Can we make shadows with our bodies?
  • Are certain times of the day better for shadows?

You can see an animal in your house if you google search an animal name (on iPhone or android) and then press ‘View in 3D’. It opens your camera and soon will show you the animal moving in your room. You can walk around it and take a picture of it with people.

  • Lion
  • Tiger
  • Cheetah
  • Shark
  • Hedgehog
  • Duck
  • Emperor Penguin
  • Wolf
  • Angler Fish
  • Goat
  • Rottweiler
  • Snakes

  • Brown Bear
  • Alligator
  • Horse
  • Shetland Pony

Communication and Language

Guess the animal:

  • Choose some of your toy animals. If you haven’t got toy animals you could maybe use a book to look for animals.
  • Pick an animal. Describe the animal to your helper. Talk about what it looks like, where it might live, what it might eat. But don’t tell them what it is or show them.
  • Can your helper guess what animal you are describing? Remember the more detail you give the easier it will be for them to guess.

Repeat with the other animals that you have chosen.

Have Fun!

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

With your family Play I went to the Zoo and saw. Each person says what they saw at the zoo but before saying the new animal they have to remember what the people before them said.

For example

Mum: I wen to the zoo and saw a lion

Dad: I went to the zoo and saw a lion(mums animal) and a giraffe (Dads new idea)

Sister: I went to the zoo and saw a lion (Mums animals), a giraffe (Dads animals) and a snake (There new animal)

See how far you can get before someone forgets the animals in order.

Good Luck!

We hope you have lots of fun completing these activities! We would love to see some of your work and especially your smiley faces so if you have any photographs you would like to share with us please email them to snaith.primary2020@gmail.com.

A HUGE thank you to you all. Keep safe and keep smiling!
