Measurement maths
Today we would like you to think about weight/mass (grams).
Choose 5 items around your home.
Feel them and try to order them from lightest to heaviest, writing the items in order in your book.
Choose your middle item and weigh it using scales.
Now you have an official weight of one of the items you should use this to estimate the weight of the other items.
Think about how much heavier or lighter the item feels in comparison to the item that you have weighed and use this to inform your prediction.
Once you have recorded all of the predictions in your book, weigh each item to see how close you were.
Challenge:
Can you calculate the difference between your prediction and the actual weight? How close were you? Were some items easier to estimate than others?
You may want to extend this task by asking other people in your home to choose an item and guess the weight.
You can then weigh it for them and tell them how accurate their estimate was.

To think about: What do the root words ‘phone’ and ‘real’ mean and how are these meanings changed by adding prefixes (a group of letters at the beginning of the word) and suffixes (a group of letters at the end of the word) to them? What do the prefixes micro, tele, homo and un mean?
